TuPOD, a 3d printed satellite cum deployment platform for other satellites, successfully completed its first mission after it was launched from ISS ( International Space Station) for satellite deployment & burnt up while re-entering the earth.

For the 3d printing enthusiasts, the joy lies in the fact that once the TuPOD was 3d printed, it met the mechanical requirements for the space and the quality tests were done at Moreheard State University. The manufacturing stake holders were CRP USA & Tetonsys.

The TuPOD’s internal satellite BUS was produced directly from a 3D CAD file without the need for further tooling. Tetonsys was able to refine the design for the BUS without incurring large costs.

So if 3d printing can fulfill the stringent space requirements, we can well imagine that what a great future it holds for all of us here on earth
